What do you need to do?

Each service below links to the court or office that handles it, with the documents and deadlines you will need.

Report a deceased estate

Report to the Master of the High Court within 14 days of the death. Bring the death certificate, the will if there is one, and an inventory of assets.

Estate reporting process

File a small claim

Claims up to E20,000 are heard in the Small Claims Court. Send a written demand at least 14 days before filing, then lodge the summons with the court clerk.

Filing guide

File a civil or criminal case

Civil claims up to E300,000 and most criminal matters start at a Magistrate Court. Complex and serious matters are filed at the High Court registry.

Bring a labour dispute

The Industrial Court hears unfair dismissal, wrongful termination and collective bargaining disputes. Claims must be filed within 6 months of the dispute arising.

Filing a claim

Designate a commercial dispute

Apply to the Registrar of the High Court to classify a case as a commercial dispute. The Registrar rules within 2 days of the application.

Case allocation

Appeal a decision

Appeals follow the court hierarchy. Magistrate Court decisions go to the High Court within 14 days; High Court decisions go to the Supreme Court within 20 days.

Contact a registry

Each court has its own registry for filings, case status enquiries and document certification. Registries operate Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Modernising the Courts

The Judiciary is implementing the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) and has expanded virtual remand hearings across the Kingdom.

Integrated Electronic Case Management

The IECMS is designed to modernise court operations and enhance the efficiency, transparency and accessibility of case management processes across all courts.

Virtual Remand Hearings

Secure digital links connect courts directly to remand centres. Approximately 1,500 cases were heard through the system between January and June 2025.

Cybercrime Capacity

Judicial officers receive ongoing training on the Computer Crime and Cybercrime Act, 2022, and the Data Protection Act, 2022, including electronic evidence handling.
